Position Overview

To bring us into our next chapter, we’re looking for a transformative leader to become our first Chief People Officer for our flagship NY office.

In this role you will help create and drive the vision for a People function that will transform us from a creatively driven company to a creatively driven, impact-focused and human-centered creative agency that attracts and retains the most talented people in the world.

You will drive the people strategy across Grey, New York including creating an equitable and inclusive experience across the employee lifecycle. You will be a catalyst for innovation, and champion new ways to advance our People experience. You will have the unique opportunity to redesign our People infrastructure, rethinking classic approaches to HR and innovating at every turn.

Our future-forward People discipline will include innovative practices, including effective performance management, recruiting, and supporting the development of a culture and actions that demonstrate our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Reports directly to the CEO, you will collaborate closely with our executive team, and will be a key advisor on organizational strategies. You will review our structure and reinvent how we are working to best support our people, our teams and our company.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Oversee a team of ~15 people and help evolve the current team structure to meet the new vision for the People discipline and the role it will play within the organization.

Talent Acquisition: Ensure our Talent Acquisition team can supercharge our ability to attract the best talent and that our organization reflects the world we live in.

  • Ensure we have and are executing an intentional and equitable process through needs assessment, recruiting, interviewing, evaluation and selection
  • Have a compelling in-market “pitch” and think creatively and competitively about where we source our talent from
  • Ensure the team works closely and communicates effectively with hiring managers

Talent Strategy & Development: Ensure we have a best-in-class talent development approach that nurtures and supports our people and our leaders in fueling a culture where everyone can do their best work, is valued, and has the ability to grow in both their craft and career.

  • Impactful onboarding process - orientation, expectation setting, culture socialization and studio integration
  • Evaluate and evolve our practices, systems and behaviors: job descriptions, career pathways, feedback and review process, organizational design, employee surveys and designing improvement plans
  • Growth and development: educational curriculum for every level and discipline, arming our managers and leaders with the skills and tools needed to develop and grow their teams more effectively
  • Creating programs and practices that will ensure people feel like they are growing in their craft and that their career is being actively nurtured and supported

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Work closely with our executive team to ensure consistent progress towards our goal to become 1) a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace 2) have a diverse, equitable and inclusive strategic and creative process

  • Work with leaders on accountability measures against our goals
  • Monitor progress toward our DEI vision and achievement of our DEI goals as well as the execution of strategies that map toward those goals
  • Ensure DEI is embedded in our learning curriculum and specifically in leadership development
  • Collaborate with experts to evaluate Company's practices, stay current on DEI research and best practices

Compensation, benefits and total rewards: Working closely with our benefits, legal and finance teams to lead a competitive compensation and total rewards strategy and ensure clarity and equity across the organization

  • Lead a compensation strategy and pay bands that ensure both a competitive approach in market as well as equity within our workforce
  • Working with WPP, CFO, COO, Global CPO and General Counsel to make sure our total rewards are motivating and benefiting our people

WPP Partnership & Integration: Become a Grey ambassador within our WPP holding company

  • Working closely with WPP colleagues to ensure Grey is leveraging centralized HR subject matter experts and enabling us to work smarter

Executive Leadership: Belief that leadership is a craft, and you can model, educate, learn and teach

  • Leading and invested in the growth and development of the People team
  • In partnership with the Executive team, drive the effort to refine, document, and communicate the studio’s culture, core values, and DEI strategies
  • Act as a trusted partner and coach to the members of the executive leadership team
  • Model and champion of our culture and core values

What You Will Need

  • Significant experience and substantial knowledge of progressive HRBP leadership experience
  • HR knowledge and experience for staffing, benefits, compliance, and compensation
  • Experience in working with executive team on DEI frameworks and strategies
  • Strong working knowledge of employment laws and regulations
  • Comfortable having both strategic and tactical responsibilities
  • Proven track record with employee development, building successful programs, talent acquisition, organization design, and performance management
  • Expertise in anticipating issues across the organization and recognizing opportunities and proactively developing initiatives
  • Certifications in HR helpful (SHRM-CP, PHR, GPHR)
