ABOUT THE POSITION

The Chief People Officer (CPO) reports to the CEO, and is a member of the executive leadership team (ELT) and participates in strategic and business planning and program development and policy formation. This key executive provides strategic and operational leadership in the development and delivery of state-of-the art human resources programs and initiatives across WES. The CPO ensures that WES has the right talent to meet its business objectives, while ensuring an inclusive and engaging environment that supports WES' mission.

This is an ideal opportunity for a strategic and innovative human resources executive with global experience who is passionate about international mobility and joining a growing and dynamic organization.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a Senior Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Leadership Team and Senior Leadership Team on all aspects of talent strategies and human resources, ensuring that WES has the talent necessary to meet its overall goals and objectives
  • Develop strategic objectives for the human resources function and initiate specific programs and activities which support and achieve the organization's strategic priorities
  • Develop actionable and measurable metrics for enterprise-wide HR initiatives, assess organizational performance, and hold teams accountable for value-based outcomes fostering continuous learning and improvement
  • Oversee the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives of the organization. Use data, metrics and a variety of talent acquisition and retention strategies to ensure our workforce reflects the diverse nature of the communities WES serves
  • Work with the Compensation Committee of the Board on matters related to compensation, benefits, succession planning, employee engagement, workforce planning, and DEI
  • Ensure that compensation policies and benefit programs are in place to attract, engage, and retain key talent, and are in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values
  • Ensure total rewards are aligned with the organization's strategic priorities and talent strategy, and with competitive practice. Continually review and improve compensation and benefits practices and programs, while effectively managing costs and compliance
  • Oversee organizational design and talent management to ensure the success and growth of WES
  • Streamline and upgrade (where appropriate) talent management capabilities, to drive leadership talent growth initiatives, and ensure that WES has the right operating models, structure, people, processes, and culture to ensure sustainable high performance
  • Oversee a Talent Acquisition function that recruits, selects, and retains highly qualified professionals
  • Provide leadership and direction to the human resources staff to support and maintain a motivated, productive and successful team through open communication, mentorship and delegation of responsibilities
  • Develop and implement new HR technologies, concepts, and process approaches that will enable the staff to increase capacity for efficiency and productivity of the present and future work performance
  • Maintain current knowledge on contemporary issues in the field and be an active member of top social enterprise and HR associations in order to apply innovative industry-best solutions, while serving as an advocate for WES

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience with leadership roles in HR strategy, organizational development, culture development, employee relations, talent management and/or total rewards. Experience working across sectors, the private sector, and non-profit organizations, preferred with an understanding of business operations and broader social impact
  • Experience supporting an organization with a global scope is ideal; keen understanding of global operations, highly diverse staff (at WES staff represent 60 countries of national origin and 50 languages), partners worldwide and other key stakeholders
  • Human resources generalist background with broad knowledge of employment, benefits, compensation, organizational planning, employee relations, performance management, and staff and leadership development
  • Experience collaborating closely with senior executive colleagues across an enterprise to help reconcile complex operational demands with transformational organizational initiatives that significantly impact the workforce
  • Track record of designing, building, and supporting high performing HR teams positioned to support and partner with organizational leaders as they grow their business / departments
  • A history of success in leading organizational initiatives around the recruitment and retention of talent, with a commitment to DEI, and the ability to enable a multi-generational workforce
  • Experience recruiting, engaging and supporting employees, in a mostly remote, hybrid work environment, through innovative communication and engagement strategies
  • Experience presenting to and/or interacting with a Board on a variety of human resources topics to include executive compensation, succession planning, culture development, diversity, operating system, etc.
  • Strong executive presentation skills, including the ability to influence, negotiate, and communicate effectively at all levels inside and outside of the organization. Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Track record of building strong organizational cultures of competence, belonging, respect, devotion to the mission, and a drive toward results
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking, with the ability to position the organization toward the future, looking beyond the present situation to conceptualize key trends and identify changing market demands. Ability to translate these insights into objectives and break them down into meaningful action steps
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and constructive manner with a wide-ranging group of stakeholders. Knowledgeable of how decisions impact all aspects of the business
  • Approaches leading the organization as a cohesive team, creating open lines of communication, and managing the team in a way that enables them to optimize strengths and continually develop competencies
  • Holds self and others accountable. Creates a culture of accountability that starts at the top and is built around honest communication and clear expectations
  • Demonstrates integrity in all situations with staff at all levels. Brings a commitment to openness, transparency, forthrightness, empathy, and active listening
  • Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field highly preferred. Human Resources certification preferred

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

LOCATION: Remote; 10-20% travel
