About the team and role:

At Canva, our goal is to be insights-driven and our People team is no exception. The People Analytics team provides actionable data, measurement, and insights to improve the growth and experience of all our People at Canva. We solve a multitude of exciting challenges from workforce planning, to employee retention, and provide key insights to drive business decisions. We are looking for an experienced people analytics leader to drive our global people analytics capability.

In this role, we’re looking for a strategic thinker who can tackle ambiguous problems, bring definition and clarity to business leaders around our people. You have an analytical mindset and the ability to empathise with our stakeholders. You have exceptional written, visual and verbal communication skills, the ability to manage complex stakeholder environments and a passion for rallying people around a single unified plan.

Reporting into the Head of People and working closely with the Head of Data and the People Leadership group, you’ll lead and build a high performing data team to drive impact and support our people initiatives across the global business. As such, the key to your success at Canva will be your ability to drive cross-company collaboration and influence key decisions, bringing internal and external stakeholders on a journey to realise a world-class people strategy. You will be a motivated self-starter with the ability to build and manage global teams when extra resources are required.

What you'll do:

  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Develops long term people analytics strategies and objectives; proactively identifies gaps and opportunities;
  • Partner closely with functions across the people division as well as our specialty leaders and SuperGroup Leads;
  • Develop a clear strategy for our global people analytics programs including workforce planning ensuring alignment with Canva’s objectives and broader company mission;
  • Manages complex decisions and problems, uses high judgement and expertise to mitigate risks created by complexity and make trade-offs to ensure the right outcomes.
  • People Analysis:
  • Build out strategy and frameworks to drive business insights that inform decision making;
  • Work with Finance to ensure accurate financial modelling and reporting for all People related business activities;
  • Support the Specialities and Super Groups to have the information and insights they need to meet their people growth and management needs;
  • Automate as much as possible the connection between people analytics and business decision making;
  • Provide insights to the Head of People, Specialty Leaders and SuperGroups on the current state and opportunities to drive improvement.
  • Organisational Leadership:
  • Build from scratch a strong team to best support the matrix organisation;
  • Able to set a vision, design a strategy, and align the organisation on the achievement of goals/priorities. Uses expertise to design team structures to meet long term business goals;
  • Ensures the right people are in the right roles, creates growth and development opportunities, and builds highly effective and engaged teams;
  • Creates a culture that embodies Canva’s values;
  • Builds diverse and inclusive teams and focuses on team member wellbeing.

What we're looking for:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in analytics, consulting, or related quantitative role ideally specialising in People/HR;
  • 8+ years of data analytics team building and management; 
  • Experience of working in hyper-growth tech companies (SaaS ideal);
  • Experience building and leading a People Analytics capability fast-growing people system;
  • Experience working to optimise talent acquisition in a hyper-growth company;
  • Knowledge of and experience driving workforce planning is a bonus;
  • Knowledge of Workday is a bonus;
  • Highly numeric with strong communication skills and the ability to communicate highly complex information in clear and simple language;
  • Ability to take ambiguous problems and solve them in a structured, hypothesis-driven, data-supported way.
