Senior Manager, People and Policy

Density

San Francisco, CA, USA Remote

Full time

Nov 26

At Density, we build the most advanced people sensing system in the world. Density can tell you how many people are in any room in real-time, with very high degrees of accuracy, and without invading individual privacy. The result of distributing this platform is lower emissions, less waste, better access, safer buildings, and better designed cities. It is a long term pursuit and one we could use your help achieving.

Our product is being deployed by many of the world’s most admired brands. What these customers have in common is space. Collectively they own, operate, and occupy billions of square feet of corporate real estate. How the world relates to workspaces and commercial real estate is changing fast, which is why our customers need us now more than ever.

That’s where you come in.

Density is growing rapidly. We have offices in San Francisco, New York City, Syracuse, and cross-functional team members in 30 states and five countries. We run a mixed model — co-located in some geos and distributed in others. The ability to work on and willingness to invest in a team with this structure is important; especially for a role in People. We don’t believe culture is exclusively in the room. We think it resides in the quality of our internal communications, in the transparency with our colleagues, our values, our bar for exceptional contribution, and the regular investments we make in bringing teams together (post-COVID).

The People Team at Density manages the end-to-end lifecycle of all our team members — we are tasked with thoughtfully growing the team and building engaging programs and policies that range from learning and development and the way we enable our people to grow, to in-office safety policies and compliance. As the People Operations and Policy person you’ll work hand-in-hand senior management and leaders across the function.

In this role you will:

  • Act as a strategic business partner to senior members of the team.
  • Partner with leadership on all aspects of employee relations including:

+Guidance on local, state and federal laws,;

+Performance coaching and feedback, and re-leveling of roles where needed;

+Mentoring and team building;

+Enabling the graceful termination of employees when that is necessary;

+Employee leave coordination, including parental leave administration; and

+Compensation evaluation and review.

  • Coach and mentor others, listen effectively, and build rapport with a diverse workforce -- helping employees at all levels develop.
  • Leverage people-related data to make informed recommendations and foster creative solutions.
  • Craft and implement competitive, inspiring, and engaging company policies and programs that contribute to employee education and growth, greater inclusivity and awareness, and compliance.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strategic business partner mindset — you find and help navigate the intersections between business and people strategy.
  • Lived experience building people teams and policies at hyper-growth stage companies.
  • Highly responsive self-starter; you’re the kind of person who jumps on tasks or requests the moment they come in.
  • Organizational master: nothing falls through the cracks, you’re great at keeping and checking off a to-do list, and managing follow-ups. If someone gives you a task, it gets done. If someone asks you a question, it always gets answered.
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced environment where projects, products, and priorities change frequently.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • HR certification or degree preferred.
  • A no task is too small attitude -- you are always willing to jump in.

What we bring:

  • Excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, mental and reproductive health, 401K, equity, Flex Fridays, Remote Friendly, unlimited and mandatory PTO and more.
  • A work environment full of fun, smart, talented, dedicated, and truly kind teammates.
  • Our values: be humble, seek feedback, and always solve the fundamental problem. These values are hard to achieve but we aspire to them daily.
  • A team hailing from places like Apple, LinkedIn, Stripe, Meraki, Hashi Corp, WeWork, NASA, & beyond.
  • $227 million raised from investors like Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, and Upfront Ventures.

We are looking for candidates who are strong in several areas and have exposure to or interest in the others. Most of all, we are looking for candidates who see themselves as a meaningful addition to Density’s team and culture.
