The problem

We’re trying to fix that by building new financial services that make it easier to plan ahead, pay down debt, and save. And we’re doing it as a transparent, straightforward business that only profits when our members do.

The role

As People Operations Lead you'll serve as a thought-leader on all employee-related matters and ensure Even has the tools, processes, and policies necessary to support the company at every stage of growth. You'll oversee and improve our current HR operations and build out new ones. You'll ensure inclusion and equity are woven into the fabric of our company and you'll work to make Even a place where employees feel supported, engaged, and able to deliver their best work. This is a highly collaborative role — you'll partner with managers across every team and support them with performance management, skills development, team building, and more. This role reports to the VP of Operations, who has run HR for the last 4.5 years and loves it, but, trust me, is very excited to hand the reins to you!

What you'll do:

  • Oversee the full HR stack: strategy, operations, employee engagement, compensation, performance management, learning & development, onboarding, etc.
  • Work closely with company leadership to determine if we have the talent we need to achieve our ambitious mission and goals. Assuming have the right talent, work with company leadership to ensure we're keeping Eveners empowered and engaged.
  • Build robust HR operations and compliance as we scale, and maintain policies and competitive benefits that support our employees across compensation, wellness, professional development, etc.
  • Lead the HR team and identify its strengths and the highest leverage improvements, as well as create a path to enhance the team's capabilities.
  • Ensure that our remote-equal workplace encourages connection and fosters inclusion and that all practices are thoughtful for a distributed team.
  • Manage performance development and employee engagement programs by setting clear goals, feedback, development options.
  • Identify trends and recommend solutions for employee performance, retention, and engagement to leadership.

Some things that might make you a great fit:

  • You have 8+ years of progressive and hands-on HR experience in a startup environment and enjoy the challenges of a growing company. Please note that years of experience is not a hard requirement, we'll happy consider fast rising stars with demonstrated ability to succeed with a broad scope of responsibilities.
  • You're an experienced manager, as well as a precise and detailed operator — you know how to develop your direct reports and independently deliver work that's thorough, well-organized, and ties to objectives.
  • You have experience growing a remote / hybrid-remote team.
  • You have deep knowledge about industry norms, but think about what's appropriate for our company and how we can do better than others.
  • You have a proven ability to influence change across the organization and successfully lead major HR programs that align strategy with company values and objectives.
  • You effectively partner with managers. You understand when to teach vs. guide, how to hold them accountable, and provide them with tools to build a more inclusive environment.
  • You have strong executive communication skills — you ask critical questions, communicate data-driven insights, and raise issues and opportunities with a well-formed point of view.
